With new material from the project recently leaking, Nas
is reportedly preparing to release his highly anticipated N*gger album
this July.
While previous reports anticipated the album would be released in
April, N*gger is now expected to drop on July 1st,
according to his rep, with Nas showing no indication of any plans to change the
album's highly controversial title. A new song from the project, "Be A N*gger
Too" recently surfaced online.
Continuing to reflect his flair for social awareness, the song makes
references to Islam, the NAACP, Eminem's N-word slip up and the
recent murder of South African reggae artist Lucky Dube. Among Nas'
choice lyrics for "Be A N*gger Too" include the following chorus:
"I'm a n*gga/ he's a n*gga/ she's a n*gga/ we some n*ggas/ wouldn't you
like to be a n*gga too?/ To all my kike n*ggas/ spic n*ggas/ guinea n*ggas/
chink n*ggas/ that's right, y'all my n*ggas too/ I'm a n*gga, he's a n*gga/
she's a n*gga/ we some n*ggas/ wouldn't you like to be a n*gga to?/ They like to
strangle n*ggas/ blamin' n*ggas/ shootin' n*ggas/ hangin' n*ggas/ still you want
to be a n*gga too?"
In a recent survey conducted by SOHH, out of 1,899 respondents 85.27%
said they were not offended by Nas' decision to name his album N*gger,
while 14.73% of those polled said they were.
48.18% of respondents said the able title made them curious about the album's
content, while 41.42% responded that the title had no affect on their interest
level and 10.40% said the title made them less interested in the album.
In addition to weighing in on the Nas album, the poll also reflected some
social attitudes toward the N-word, with 80.37% responding that all races should
not be able to use the N-word equally and 19.63% saying they should. 56.57% of
respondents polled also felt the N-word could not be empowering, while 43.43%
felt that it can be.
Nas' album N*gger is due in stores July 1st via Def Jam Recordings.
